Energy Healing (or Vibrational Healing)
For centuries, the world’s oldest living cultures have recognized a great cosmic energy that binds us all, a creative life force inherent in all living things, an inner essence. It goes by many names: ki, qi, chi, prana, spirit, energy. When the force is flowing freely, in balance with the ebb and flow of life, it can ignite the body’s own natural healing capacity and restore one to optimal health. Energy healing, also known as vibrational healing, refers to a variety of holistic healing therapies that are focused on manipulating the human energy system, or one’s “life force”, to bring about balance and wellness.
Energy is light, sound, and vibration. Vibration is the essence of life. Scientists are now recognizing that all living organisms have their own distinct vibratory resonance—the basic elements of the planet (air, fire, earth, and water), crystals and gemstones, plants and herbs, light and colors, even the food we eat. Ki energy (qi energy, chi energy) is said to be the medium through which we experience life as vibratory creatures. It exists in everything, yet cannot be confined by anything. Balancing one’s ki energy is central to almost all of the energy healing modalities that have been used for centuries.
Humans are designed to perceive and respond to vibration. Vibrational healing (energy healing) in all its forms attempts to positively affect energy fields that may be out of balance and restore us to a higher level of functioning. The concept is based on the premise that human bodies are made up of interconnected fields of energy and that when we are not well, one or more of these energy fields is out of balance. When these energies are rebalanced, we can be restored to good health.
Proponents of energy healing hypothesize that disease in the physical body first occurs at the cellular and biomolecular level. It is then said to extend from the biomolecular level to the cellular level and finally, to the anatomical body. Many ancient Eastern healing and spiritual disciplines are focused on balancing one’s energy field through a variety of integrative body-mind training techniques. It is believed that if we can better manage our energy, we can better manage the quality of our lives.
Some energy healing modalities involve practitioners using hands-on techniques, while others involve non-touch or absentia treatments. Specific areas treated may include the aura, the human energy field, the chakras or the meridian system, as well as the physical body. Popular holistic healing therapies such as acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustion, tai chi, qi gong, yoga, meditation, sound healing, vocal toning, homeopathy, therapeutic touch, and Reiki are just a few of the modalities used widely today for chakra balancing and energy healing. These practices are becoming more and more widely accepted in Western alternative and complementary medicine circle.
